Stand And Fight Or Run And Leave

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Why are people in South Africa leaving by the thousands? Once a promising young democracy, South Africa has degenerated into a hell that makes the Wild West look like a Theme Park. In a population of 50 million, South Africa has one of the world's highest murder rates, at 37 per 100,000 inhabitants, it's 6 times America's rate and nearly 20 times Britain's.

Method of Madness - Self Defense

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

So what is it that separates Dennis Martin and John Brawn from the pack? As Dennis said himself, there are only so many ways to teach and axe hand or tiger strike, it's easy to learn and easy to teach. What separates Dennis and John from the pack is the same thing that separates Traditional and Modern Martial Arts from Self Defense - the teaching methods. Rather than practicing on thin air, a compliant opponent, or someone trained to fight in an anticipated manner, Combative's place's you in unfamiliar situations against unfamiliar opponents. You're continually off balance, constantly assessing and reassessing the situation, and, as a result, constantly learning. The training simulates the reality, you wear the same clothes you normally would, you fight in a similar environment and you train with a similar aggression.

Would you use a Wrench to Hammer a Nail? Then why would you use kick boxing techniques in a street fight? Sure you would eventually drive the nail with the wrench but it will take a lot longer and a lot more effort than using the correct tool for the job.

There was a time though when people did learn the practical skills they needed to survive a real street fight. Among the few instructors who truly understood combat martial arts and self defense was Charlie Nelson who took what he learned during World War II, and used it prepare the average citizen for hand to hand combat.

Do you know when you are about to be set up? Good street fighters and criminals can easily disarm you with a simple seemingly innocent question. They will appear to be in need only to lure you into their trap. Once you have fallen for their trap they have you right where they want you. Once you have fallen for this tactic what do you do next? Sunday, July 12th, 2009

t seems you can't get into a discussion about martial arts without someone claiming that the style they practice is the best. Of course this isn't possible, because at least someone else in the group either practices the best martial arts style or knows someone who does. If you go online you will find thousands of opinions on the subject. Each person claims they can prove that their style is the best. Like religion, martial arts practitioners defend their style vehemently and aggressively. This can be pretty confusing especially if you don't know anything about the martial arts. But no matter what your level of experience, it always comes down to one question: Which martial arts style is the deadliest?
