Monday, February 8th, 2010

The future well-being of a society is directly linked to its ability to care for and educate its young. This task often falls to mothers and female caretakers. Are Hurricane Zones Flooded By Reporters More Than Water In Recent Years

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

There has been so much attention given to the coming of hurricane Gustav. For well over a week there has been little else discussed in weather reports except the fact that Gustav could possibly rival other oat hurricanes like Katrina, Andrew, and Camille. Much preparation was made to be as ready as possible for this next big one. Buses and trains were set up well ahead of time for evacuees that had no way to get out on their own. New Orleans especially wanted to make sure there was no repeat of the chaos that occurred during and after Katrina.

Sub-Prime Fallout: Why Such A Big Deal?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

The recent sub-prime crisis is unlike any faced by the financial system before in one dubious distinction: Its effects are exacerbated by globalization to an unprecedented degree. Recent developments help illustrate exactly how this credit crunch can be differentiated from others, such as the savings and loan scandals of the 1980's, by its fundamentally larger scale and complexity.

Mortgage Interest Rates Make Dramatic Rise After Bailout Passes

Monday, July 20th, 2009

This week 30 year mortgage rates rose over half a point. This is the largest one week increase this year. It's interesting that the rate increases happened after the bailout was passed by the government. Although this is not a sign the bailout will fail its not a positive sign of its future effectiveness. The primary purpose of the bailout was to influence banks to lend. And "hopefully" taking away billions of bad loans would cause banks to ease restrictions and lower rates. Instead we are seeing a dramatic rise in rates. In essence the banks are saying thanks for the money but it's not going to cause us to lend. How much have rates risen? Besides a period at the end of July and the beginning of August 30 year mortgage rates are the highest they have been all year. Below are rates for the last few weeks.

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

In a recent article by Dr. Amaal V.E. Tokars, she writes: "There has been much talk recently over whether or not Iraq has fallen into a state of civil war. If this talk is true, then the question of who is to blame for the violence has a simple answer, and a rather convenient one for the US administration.

School Violence, Drugs and The Devil’s Brew!

Friday, July 10th, 2009

To my slightly used brain it doesn't appear that there is any real sanity in the world today, much less in the hallways of our schools. Kids today are not really a lot different from the ones I knew back in my high school years, except they have a few more challenges than I did when I was a teen.
