Great Tips For Furniture Shopping
Residents of Anytown U.S.A. periodically begin searching for a change of furniture in their homes and offices. Perhaps their furniture seems a little out-dated to them, worn from their active children or grandchildren, or damaged from a pet. They might just be feeling like they want to change the decor in one room or their entire home or office.
Some of these people will begin their search at local furniture stores, spending hours looking at a variety of furniture colors, styles, and fabrics. Some things they take into consideration are the size and usage of the room or rooms to be furnished, wall color shades, carpeting or other floor covering and its color or pattern, and window treatments.
It is important that all these factors be brought into account. Assuming that they want to just replace furniture and not go into the task of choosing new flooring and draperies, it is essential that they have samples of carpeting and window treatments to avoid clashes that will ruin the appearance of the room.
Other things in the room that should be considered include lamps, entertainment center, end tables and coffee table. For instance, if the room has been dressed with ultra modern accessories, it would not be appropriate to purchase French Provincial sofa and chairs.
If the window treatments are a vibrant blue with pale lavender walls, it would probably look strange if the furniture chosen for the room was burnt orange or bright green. Perhaps the carpeting is maroon but they choose bright red leather furniture. What a disaster that room would look like and all that money wasted since many stores won't allow returns of high end furniture.
Before the people begin their shopping, it would be a good idea to determine the main proposed color scheme of the room's furnishings. If it is not possible to take samples of floor coverings, etc, to the store, perhaps pictures could be taken to the store which would be very helpful in avoiding color and style classes like previously mentioned.
Besides color scheme and style, comfort of those who will be sharing the use of the room should be considered. If the shoppers are a husband and wife, for instance, there should be discussion and agreement about the proposed furniture purchase long before they enter the door of the furniture store.
If the wife wants early American furniture and the husband wants black leather, there needs to be some communication about their differences or that shopping trip could end up with a heated argument. That could prove to be embarrassing for them both.
Although buying furniture from specialized stores has been covered, there are many other options for furnishing rooms in a house or office. Some other options are purchasing furniture from a second-hand store, classified ads in the local newspaper, family hand-me-downs, or yard/garage sales.
Out of all this, one thing has become very evident. No major furniture purchase should be considered without thorough planning and communication between those who plan to furnish their home or office.
