Have them hold the bat in the hitting ready position with their hands back about to swing the bat and then show them how to just drop the bat, and drop straight to ground face first. This method is not for everyone and usually only the smaller wiry kids like it.
The other method a baseball swing coach should teach their students is to simply turn quickly if they see a ball is coming toward their face or neck they should turn their back to the pitch therefore exposing their back or ribs to the pitch, not their face.
